Summer LEAHP
Summer Leadership Academy for Alcohol Harm Prevention 2019: Student Experiences
In June 2019, four Canadian students took part in the first Summer Leadership Academy for Alcohol Harm Prevention (LEAHP) in Slovenia. They shared their experiences of the summer school at the Post-Secondary Education Partnership – Alcohol Harms Symposium in Sherbrooke, Quebec, in October 2019.
International Summer Leadership Academy Competition Recipients
The Postsecondary Education Partnership—Alcohol Harms (PEP-AH) and the Canadian Centre on Substance
Use and Addiction (CCSA) are pleased to announce the winners of the 2019 International Summer
Leadership Academy for Alcohol Harm Prevention competition.
Four ambassadors — one from each PEP-AH region (Western, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic) — have been
selected to participate in the event that will take place at the University of Ljubljana’s Faculty
of Health Science in Slovenia, from June 16 to 22, 2019.
The four individuals are:
Marilyn Hardy
Bishop’s University,
Sherbrooke, Que.
Madi Sutton
Dalhousie University,
Halifax, N.S
Alex Vincent
University of Guelph,
Guelph, Ont.
Cassandra, Alex, Marilyn and Madi will joined 22 other students from 11 additional countries for six
days in expert-designed and delivered courses, conferences and workshops intended to help reduce
alcohol-related harms on campuses.
Before their departure for the Leadership Academy, they had to plan with their institution a project or
activity linked to an alcohol-related issue or problem identified on their campus. When they returned
from the Academy, they were to use what they learned there to help them implement the project or
activity.
Each of PEP-AH’s over 40 member institutions could select one candidate’s application for consideration
for the competition. The PEP-AH National Committee reviewed the applications and selected one individual
to represent each region.
